The Many Money Shots Of Wonder Woman #602

As I wrote last Wednesday, I’d gotten copies of Wonder Woman 600 and 601 from DC a while back.

So, with my local comic shop a couple of books short, I decided to pick up 602 and 603.

I’d never read a Wonder Woman comic before these four:

Admittedly, the costume/origin/story change and J. Michael Straczynski’s involvement is what got me reading.

What can I say? I’m a sucker for gimmicks and hype.

Plus, I plowed through the Rising Stars compendium earlier this year and now anything with Straczynski’s immediately piques my interest.

Wonder Woman’s new world was introduced at the end of issue 600 and detailed in 601. However, I’ve got to say, it wasn’t until 602 that things really picked up. Every other page was like this:

Issue 603 was alright too, just seemed a bit slower since I read it right after 602. In it, Diana travels from Earth to Tartarus, the Greek version of Hell. Of course, she makes her escape and returns to the group of Amazons she’d left unprotected back on Earth… only to find their pursuers have found them.

Long story short, the Amazons get shuttled off to safety and Diana meets the Big Bad of Straczynski’s story.

I’m on board for number 604.

Comic Shop Shortcomings

Not a gripe against my local comic book store here in Chautauqua County. More just a statement of general let-down.

The racks today were short a couple of books, plus one which should have been in for me.

No Return of Bruce Wayne #5 for me tonight. Nor will I be reading the Batgirl and Outsiders issues of Bruce Wayne: The Road Home.

Did however pick up the following:

  • Bruce Wayne — The Road Home: Batman and Robin
  • Bruce Wayne — The Road Home: Red Robin
  • Amazing Spider-Man #645
  • Wonder Woman #602 & 603

More than anything else, that’s probably the problem with the comic shop not having what I wanted… I ended up buying other stuff I wouldn’t have bought had my Bat titles been in.

DC sent me issues 600 and 601 of Wonder Woman a while back and what J. Michael Straczynski’s doing seems interesting, so there went what I was going to spend on The Road Home… which I’ll probably end up buying Friday when the rest of everything arrives.

Poor, poor pitiful me…
